HDU
HDUs (High Dependency Units) are specialized hospital wards designed to provide close monitoring and support for patients who require a higher level of care than what is provided in general wards but do not need the full intensive care unit (ICU) level of treatment.
- Intermediate Care: HDUs bridge the gap between general wards and ICUs, offering intermediate care for patients with serious medical conditions.
- Close Monitoring: Patients are continuously monitored, including vital signs like heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure, often with specialized equipment.
- Nursing Care: The nurse-to-patient ratio in an HDU is higher than in general wards, allowing for more frequent check-ups and immediate intervention if needed.
- Support for Critical Conditions: HDUs treat patients recovering from major surgeries, those with severe infections, respiratory issues, or requiring specialized treatments such as oxygen therapy or intravenous medications.
- Short-Term Stay: Patients are often transferred to an HDU from the ICU after stabilization or from general wards when their condition worsens and requires closer supervision.
