OGD
OGD (Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy), also known as upper endoscopy, is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to examine the inside of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It involves visualizing the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum) using a flexible tube with a camera called an endoscope.
- GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease): To assess damage to the esophagus from acid reflux.
- Peptic Ulcers: To identify ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.
- Gastritis: To detect inflammation of the stomach lining.
- Celiac Disease: To biopsy the small intestine for diagnosing conditions like celiac disease.
- Tumors or Cancer: To detect or biopsy suspected tumors in the upper GI tract.
- Barrett's Esophagus: To monitor changes in the esophageal lining that may increase cancer risk.
- Bleeding Control: To stop bleeding from ulcers or varices using cauterization or clips.
- Polyp Removal: To remove small growths or polyps.
- Foreign Body Removal: To extract objects stuck in the esophagus or stomach.
- Dilation: To widen narrowed areas (strictures) in the esophagus.
