OGD

OGD (Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy), also known as upper endoscopy, is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to examine the inside of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It involves visualizing the esophagusstomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum) using a flexible tube with a camera called an endoscope.

  • GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease): To assess damage to the esophagus from acid reflux.
  • Peptic Ulcers: To identify ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.
  • Gastritis: To detect inflammation of the stomach lining.
  • Celiac Disease: To biopsy the small intestine for diagnosing conditions like celiac disease.
  • Tumors or Cancer: To detect or biopsy suspected tumors in the upper GI tract.
  • Barrett's Esophagus: To monitor changes in the esophageal lining that may increase cancer risk.
  • Bleeding Control: To stop bleeding from ulcers or varices using cauterization or clips.
  • Polyp Removal: To remove small growths or polyps.
  • Foreign Body Removal: To extract objects stuck in the esophagus or stomach.
  • Dilation: To widen narrowed areas (strictures) in the esophagus.
